- Students will be exposed to the Career and Tech Courses in MISD
Lesson Procedures
- Students login and go to Naviance. (Go to the Dowell website and click on Naviance at the very bottom. Username and password are both s and their id number, s123456). You will need to guide the students and interact with them as they go through the survey. The questions they will be answering are in #3 below.
- Go to About Me Tab. Click on Cluster Finder. View your previous results (if student has not taken the Cluster Finder, have them complete now.)
- They will then take the Career and Tech Interest Survey using the results from The Cluster Finder. The survey is located under the “About Me” tab. It is to the far left under “Surveys to take.” The questions they will answer are:
- What are your top three clusters?
- Which cluster interests you most and which one do you want to focus on?
- What careers are in this cluster that interest you? List them
- Check the CTE courses that interest them.
- Click on the APG, go to page 77, look for Principles of Law, Public Safety, Correction and Security. Read the course description. What grades can take this course? Would you be interested in taking this course?
- Find a course in the APG (a link to the APG is on their Naviance homepage under links and is titled “high school apg.”) (page 50 or higher) that really interests you. Why does this class look fun or appealing? If the link doesn’t work, it can be found on the Naviance homepage in the links on the left.
- Teachers instruct the students that the APG has all the courses offered at the high school. When they begin registering for high school, they will use this APG to find the courses they will take in high school.
